How to Create a Framed Collage on a Wall

Collage is one of the most fun, expressive and creative types of art, requiring no special artistic talent beyond imagination. While collages are traditionally applied to paper or canvas backgrounds, you can create a dramatic framed collage directly on a wall as a unique accent with a sense of permanence. Use images and textures that are meaningful to you or that complement the colors in your home decor. Applying the collage over a layer of wallpaper allows for easier removal later, should you choose to redecorate.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the back and glass portions of the frame.

    • 2

Lay the empty frame on top of the wallpaper; trace around the outside of the frame edges using the pencil to create a cutting line.

    • 3

Place the wallpaper on the cutting mat and cut along the pencil lines using the utility knife.

    • 4

Arrange the collage elements on the wallpaper as desired, and glue down onto the paper using the veneer glue. Allow the collage to dry.

    • 5

Attach the collage to the wall in the desired position using a layer of wallpaper glue applied with the foam brush. Press the collage firmly, and smooth out any air bubbles.

    • 6

Apply a generous amount of wood glue to the backside of the frame. Center the frame over the collage, matching the edges of the collage with the edges of the frame, and press frame against the wall. Allow the glue to dry.
