Ideas for Painting a Hunting Themed Room

If you have avid hunters in your home, honor their hobby and love of the sport by giving a room in your house a hunting theme. This theme works well for living rooms, dens, master bedrooms, children’s rooms and basements. Begin the room makeover by painting the walls. Choose a paint color or design associated with a hunting theme.
  1. Solid Colors

    • When choosing the paint color for your walls, think of nature and the colors of the forest. Let the trunk of a tree or the forest floor inspire the shade of brown you pick. If you like the color green, choose the bright green of spring foliage or a darker shade that resembles the luscious green of summer trees. Go with the color blue like the sky. Consider the colors of autumn trees. However, keep in mind the colors of the flooring and furniture you plan to place in the room when choosing your paint color. You don’t want the paint color to clash with the furniture and accessories.

    Mural

    • If you have an artistic talent or know someone who does, paint a hunting mural on the wall. Create a forest that covers the wall from top to bottom. Paint a spring, summer, fall or winter forest. Include the animals that the hunters in your family prefer hunting such as deer, pheasant, ducks, or rabbits. If the hunting-themed room is for a child’s bedroom, make the mural extra special by including a picture of him in his hunting gear in the mural. To make the wall painting more encompassing, extend the mural to all four walls.

    Camouflage

    • Cover the walls in camouflage using brown, black and green paint. Look at a piece of camouflage clothing or hunting gear to help you sketch a camouflage design onto the wall. Use a pencil which can easily be covered up by paint to draw the pattern on. If you don’t trust your artistic skills to draw the design on freehand, purchase camouflage stencils from an online retailer. Fill the design shapes in with paint, randomly alternating between the three colors.

    Logs

    • Give your hunting-themed room the feel of a log cabin or hunting lodge by painting logs onto the walls. Vertically divide your wall into logs using painter’s tape or just paint the walls brown. Fill in the space the tape left with black paint. If you paint the walls brown first, paint thin, vertical black lines on the walls to distinguish each log. Randomly add wood knots to the logs to make them more realistic.
