Draw your desired lattice design on a piece of graph paper, using a stencil. Using graph paper is the easiest way to keep the diamonds a uniform size. Make the lattice’s lines at least ¼ inch wide.
Place the graph paper under a piece of plastic sheeting and carefully trace the design.
Cut out the lattice’s diamonds, using a utility knife, to leave only the lines.
Wash the area of the wall where you want the stencil to go, using a sponge and soapy water. After the water dries, sand the area lightly with 100-grit sandpaper and wipe away the dust.
Place the stencil on the desired area. Use a level to ensure even placement. Tape the edges of the stencil with painters’ tape to make the stencil flush with the wall.
Apply a small amount of paint to a foam stencil brush. Overloading the brush with paint will cause excess paint to run under the stencil.
Paint over the stencil by dabbing with the stencil brush, in order to avoid getting paint under the stencil; add more paint when needed.
Lift off the stencil while the paint is still wet. For a larger design, tape the stencil next to the impression and repeat as many times as you wish.
Spray clear coat over the paint after it dries to protect the lattice design.
