How to Get Your Vinyl Wall Stickers to Stick Better

Vinyl wall stickers are decals that personalize and decorate a room without the permanent commitment of paint or wallpaper. Not all vinyl wall decorations are equal; some may stick better and look more professional than others. Cleaning the surface and using a transfer tool to apply the stickers will help prepare your walls and get your decals to stick more easily.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe down the wall with a microfiber cloth to remove dust. Clean the wall with plain water or rubbing alcohol to remove sticky residue or other debris that may interfere with the adhesive of the wall decal.

    • 2

Wait at least 30 minutes after cleaning the surface before applying the vinyl wall stickers. Placing a wall decal on a damp surface increases the risk of peeling and bubbling.

    • 3

Keep the vinyl sticker on the transfer paper until the very last minute. Fine particles of dust in the air that you might not even see, as well as pet hair and other household debris, can stick to the adhesive and compromise its performance.

    • 4

Rub a transfer tool -- a rectangular piece of plastic, generally the size of a deck of cards or smaller -- firmly against the vinyl decal as you stick it to the wall to smooth it out and remove air bubbles. Air bubbles can make the decal less likely to stick well to the wall.

Avoid removing and replacing the same vinyl wall sticker on different surfaces. Although some brands of wall decals are removable, they stick better if left in place.
