How to Make a Wood Sculpture Look Like Bronze

Using a metallic spray paint is an effective way to add a bronze look to a wood sculpture. This finish works well with almost any decor and draws more attention than plain wood. Preparing the wood sculpture in the proper manner enables it to have a sleek finish without the wood grain showing through. It is important to sand some wood sculptures beforehand.       Sand the wood sculpture with a fine grit sandpaper if it is unfinished wood or has a glossy sheen from another type of paint. This is not necessary if the wood is finished with a matte paint or has a varnish coat.

      Dust off the debris from the sanding with a soft cleaning cloth.

      Apply a spray-on primer formulated for wood. This is necessary to create a smooth surface for the metallic paint. It is necessary for even varnished surfaces. Wait for the primer to dry before continuing. Read the directions on the spray can to ensure the best results.
