Different Type of Painting for Bedrooms

Painting a bedroom used to be just a matter of picking out a color of paint. Painting has become a personal matter in the 21st century. Styles and techniques for painting a bedroom make painting an individualized experience, reflecting the personality of the person occupying the room. Bedroom walls and ceilings are not just the background for decor anymore, but part of the decor itself.
  1. Choosing a Theme

    • A bedroom is a personal domain that should reflect the character and taste of the person who inhabits the room. Decide what your decor interest is before you choose the paint for your room. You may want a subdued room that will give you a relaxing retreat or a romantic hideaway. Children may want a fantasy play area or teens may be interested in a high-energy decor that reflects a hobby or musical taste. Different colors of paint will have different effects on a room, so even if your taste is for subdued shades, you will want to be careful to use colors that create the right effect for the room.

    Colors

    • Dark colors will make a room look smaller, so if your room is already smaller than you like, you will want to keep your paint colors light. Also avoid dark colors on low ceilings. Unless you have a high ceiling, you will want it to be lighter than the walls. Painting one wall a darker shade or a different color from other walls or painting door and closet frames different colors than the walls adds accent to those portions of the room. If your room is warm, you can cool it by using light, cool colors such as blue and green, while warm colors such as yellows and reds will add warmth to a cool room.

    Wall Art

    • Walls don't need to be painted solid colors. You might want to paint a mural on one wall. For instance, a green and brown room decorated with flowers, birds or faux animal skin rugs will take on a whole new dimension when you create a painting of a forest that covers one wall. You might also want to use a stencil to paint a design in just a few spots on walls like corners of walls or the ceiling or paint a design around a door. You can paint a picture of a window with a scenic view on a all where there is none, or perhaps just opt for painting geometric designs in a room featuring modern decor.

    Specialized Paints

    • If you want to add a bit of accent but are looking for subdued effects, textured paints create subtle depth and effects. For children, chalkboard paint can turn a wall or any portion of one into the perfect canvas for chalk pictures, messages or problem solving. With glow-in-the-dark paint you can turn an average room into a whole new world when the lights go out. Glitter paint may be the perfect touch for the little princess's dream room. Of course, you don't have to be a child to have a creative idea for bold specialty paint uses in your bedroom. There are no rules but your own when painting your dream bedroom.
