Natural Paint Colors for Teen Boys' Bedrooms

In addition to being synonymous with messy, teen boys' bedrooms are often decorated in posters, calendars and other elements containing bright, vibrant colors. As such, painting a teen's room in a bright color is often not suitable as it will clash with the teen's decor. When selecting a neutral, natural color of paint for a teen boy's room, pick a color that complements the room's flooring and furniture and also keeps the room bright.
  1. White

    • White or off-white is always a safe color to select for painting a teen boy's room. If a pure shade of white seems too stark, select an off-white shade that is slightly warmer. Selecting a white shade of paint is often ideal because the clutter in a teen's room can often make it appear small and dingy. White walls to match a white ceiling help give the room a bright appearance.

    Tan

    • When coupled with a brown or charcoal carpet, tan walls can give a teen boy's room a neutral, natural feel. The shade of tan you select should complement any wood in the room, especially if the teen has a wooden bed, desk or bookshelf. Tan can be light or dark, so select a shade that suits the natural light in the room. If the room has a large window, you can select a darker shade of tan. If the window is small or blocked from the outside by a large tree, choose a light tan.

    Blue

    • Blue is a common color for a boy's room because it's traditionally associated with males. The blue can adopt any particular shade, but you should only paint the room blue if it matches with some elements of the room's decor. If the teen's bedding is blue, for example, a light blue wall color in a similar shade will work. If the room's flooring is not blue, or wouldn't tie into blue, avoid using it.

    Gray

    • Painting a room in dark gray will often give the room a somber atmosphere, which you likely don't want to achieve in a teen boy's room. If the gray is light, however, it will be a suitable, natural background color that doesn't interfere with the teen's colorful posters and decorations on the walls. Gray is an alternative to white; if you don't want the starkness of white or off-white, select a mild shade of gray.
