Painting Ideas for a Boy's Football-Themed Room

Paint Walls in Team Colors

• One of the easiest ways to paint a boy's football-themed room is to paint the walls in colors that coordinate with his favorite football team. If his favorite team's colors are red and gray, you could paint all the walls gray with one accent wall in red so it is not too overwhelming. Or you could paint all of the walls gray, and use red for window coverings or other accents in the room.

Use Stencils

• Another way to incorporate a football theme in a boy's room is to use stencils. These are available in many different shapes, such as footballs, helmets or team mascots. You can purchase stencils fairly inexpensively at many arts-and-crafts stores. Place the stencil on the wall and tape it down with painter's tape so it does not move. Once it is secured, you can paint within the stencil to transfer its shape onto the wall. You can place the stencils strategically, in a pattern or at random on the walls. Or use a stencil to create a border around the upper edge of a room, near the ceiling.

Choose Colors That Reflect the Sport

• If you don't want to focus your paint colors on a specific team, think about colors that reflect the sport in general. For example, brown is the same color as the football and green is the color of the field. You could paint one wall green and another wall brown. Adding in hash marks or numbers for the field would make it look more similar to a football field. A brown wall could even be painted with white accents for the feeling of a giant football.

Paint a Wall Mural

• Painting a wall mural of your boy's favorite football player or of a football scene could customize the room. However, painting a mural may not be for the novice painter, and unless you have experience doing this, you may want to hire a professional. Alternatively, consider using stencils to create your mural, or look for large wall stickers that may give a similar effect.
