Painting Ideas for Bedrooms With Pink & Black

Pink and black are dramatic paint color choices for any room. Bedrooms, however, are often painted in subtler, more soothing tones. Make a bold statement in your guest bedroom or nursery with a pink and black paint scheme. Allow your daughter’s chic side to emerge with a Parisian-themed pink and black bedroom or by adding black and pink paint accents to a college dorm room.
  1. A Girl’s Bedroom

    • If your daughter loves pink, offer to decorate her room in a Parisian theme, using pink and black as the main colors. You can choose a light, cotton candy pink color for the walls, and add French phrases such as “Ooh la la!” or “ma chambre” painted in black over the pink base. Make a bold statement by painting pink and black vertical stripes on the walls. Solidify the connection between Paris and your pink and black color scheme by painting silhouettes of the Eiffel Tower, poodles and a French café table and chairs on a pink wall. If you’re handy with a paint brush, use an entire wall to create a mural of a French street scene, using pink and black paint.

    A Baby’s Nursery

    • It may seem odd to use black in a baby’s nursery, but if you’re looking to take a detour from the typical nursery color schemes, this might be the choice for you. Paint a wide black horizontal stripe around the room just above crib height, and paint the ABCs or different animal shapes in pink along the stripe. If your nursery is for a baby girl, you can create a glamorous princess space by painting the entire room pink and using black to paint crowns and castles around the room. A light pink wall color also provides a useful background for painting your daughter’s name and birthday in black above her crib or changing table.

    A College Dorm Room

    • Though painting walls is forbidden in most college dorm rooms, you can give your daughter a pink and black color scheme by painting the removable objects in the room. Paint a floor cloth in a pink and black checkerboard pattern. Or, provide a twist on her college’s logo or initials by painting them in the middle of the floor cloth in pink and black rather than the traditional school colors. Paint large bulletin boards brought from home in pink and black and hang them on the wall in a row, alternating colors. Your daughter can also hang strips of cork painted pink around the room and accent this border with motivational phrases such as “Practice makes perfect” or “Just do it!” painted in black on the cork.

    A Guest Room

    • Dramatic paint colors such as pink and black might be too intense to look at every day in your own bedroom, but could provide a memorable backdrop in a guest bedroom. For the maximum in dramatic effect, consider painting the entire room, including trim and windows, black and stenciling a pink flower or fleur-de-lis pattern throughout the room. Or, opt for hot pink walls, with windows and trim painted black. For a subtler effect, paint the floor and furniture a glossy black and the walls a pale shade of pink. A sophisticated mural of black vines and pink flowers could be executed on a single wall by a professional artist. Or, use the talents of a professional to paint a faux headboard, using a pink and black color scheme.
