How to Make Your Own Wall Borders

Being able to choose your own wall border colors will ensure a perfect match to the accessories in the room. You’ll also be able to select the width of the border. Painted borders are also forgiving--if you aren’t satisfied with the end result just paint over it and make a fresh start. Make any room more interesting with your own wall border design.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure
  • Painter's tape
  • Latex paint
  • 2-inch-wide paintbrush
  • Container
  • 4-inch sea sponge
  • 1-inch-wide paintbrush

Instructions

      Measure and mark the border width on the wall. Select a border width of 4 to 6 inches.

      Press painter's tape along the border edge to prevent painting past the border and onto the main wall.

      Select a light background color for the border. Use a roller or paint brush to spread the paint.

      Pour a small amount of latex paint into a container. Select a color darker than the background paint.

      Dampen the sea sponge and paint a light amount of paint on a section. Remove excess paint by dabbing lightly onto a paper towel.

      Gently dab the sponge onto the wall. Cover as much or little of the wall as you like.

      Add a second color after the first color has dried. Remove the painter's tape.
