How to Paint a 3D Wall

A 3-dimensional wall can be a challenge to paint due to the elements attached to the wall that give it a 3D look. These elements are typically made from Styrofoam, plywood and hardwood. The area around the 3D section is the hardest to paint since you have to apply the paint to every nook and cranny – and some of them may be difficult to see, especially if they are high up on the wall. Using a paint roller and several brushes in various sizes can help you paint the wall thoroughly.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove as much furniture as possible from the room to be painted. Lay the plastic sheeting on the floor. Cover any remaining furniture with the plastic to protect it from paint splatters.

    • 2

Set up the stepladder in a corner of the room so that it can be used when needed.

    • 3

Pour two to three inches of indoor wall primer into the paint pan. Cover the walls with a thin layer of the primer. Use the paint roller for larger sections and the brushes to reach into the areas that the roller cannot fit into, including the edges of the 3D elements.

    • 4

Rinse out the paint pan, and clean the roller and brushes. Allow the primer to dry thoroughly for 12 to 14 hours.

    • 5

Repeat steps three and four, only with the wall paint instead of the primer. Allow the first coat to dry for 12 hours before adding any additional coats.
