How to Paint Rooms Different Colors When the Rooms Run Together

Paint is the easiest way to add definition and individuality to a room. Color sets the tone for a space more than other elements in a room. With the important role color plays, choosing the right one, or combination, is critical to create a harmonious and complementary look in spaces where rooms run together.

Instructions

    • 1

Cover the bottom third of a wall with one color and the top third with a complementary color to create the wainscoting effect, even in the absence of the molding.

    • 2

Paint three of the room’s walls one color and the final wall three shades darker than the primary color to create a focal wall in each of the rooms that run together.

    • 3

Use a combination of paint finishes to better accentuate your rooms’ architectural features. Create a corduroy or velvet effect by painting one wall in a satin finish and the adjoining one in a semi-gloss.
