How to Combine Two Interior Paint Colors

Combining two interior paint colors can create interest and contrast in a room. Paint is also an inexpensive method of sprucing up a room and livening it up. Combining interior colors can depend on your favorite colors and whether you want to contrast two adjoining walls or contrast a wall to baseboards or crown molding.

Instructions

    • 1

Paint the two interior paint colors on scrap pieces of baseboard or crown molding to see how they look together.

    • 2

Paint one wall surface a different color from a wall trim or crown molding. Match color families together such as browns with earth tones and aquamarines with cool tones.

    • 3

Cover trim with masking tape and drop cloths while painting walls. Tape corners where the interior colors meet to avoid splotching of the different colors.

    • 4

Paint large sections of the wall with rollers and paint corners with paintbrushes. Paint baseboards and molding with paintbrushes.
