Painting Doors With NFL Colors

Painting doors with NFL team colors can be a DIY way to show your spirit, and you don't need to be a master painter. A simple technique of using one color for the jamb and one for the door is an afternoon project a novice painter can complete. From there, you can adorn nearby walls or the door itself with pennants, photos or other team items. Use semigloss paint for this job. Semigloss holds up better for the contact jambs and doors receive; plus, it's easier to clean.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick your team and colors. For instance, if your team is the Miami Dolphins, the colors are aqua, coral and white. White can be commonplace, so to get the point across, choose the stronger colors, in this case aqua and coral.

Bring an image of the team colors to the paint store. Employees in the paint department can match the hues. You only need a quart of each color -- that will cover several doors.

    • 3

Paint the jamb first. Begin at the top. Use one of your chosen colors. Paint in smooth strokes. Don't dip the brush too deeply. If it's overloaded, it will drip. Use the angled edge of the brush to get in the corners. Sweep out strokes with gentle swipes to smooth the application. Look for drips on the jamb as you go, especially as you paint the sides of the jamb and the facing trim.

Wait for the paint to dry. Apply another coat. Two coats should provide a solid color.

    • 5

Paint the door next, using your second color. Begin at the top. Work your way across first, moving downward as you finish a horizontal section. A foot at a time is about right.

Allow the door to dry. Apply a second coat, and you have your NFL door.
