Sage Green Wall Color Ideas

Stripes

• One way to use sage green is to paint vertical or horizontal stripes on your walls. Create stripes by combining sage green with a neutral color, such as white or beige. Another idea is to paint monochromatic stripes in two or more colors, such as sage green with mint or olive, or with mint, olive and yellow-green. Painting vertical stripes can make the ceiling appear higher; painting horizontal stripes can make room appear larger.

Color Blocking

• Color blocking is the use of two or more colors in large chunks or sections. The technique usually uses complementary colors, or colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. But there's no exact rule, so you can also combine sage green with pastel and neutral colors. One way to color block your walls is to paint the top half of the wall in sage green and the bottom half in any shade of pink, which would be sage green's complementary color. Likewise, you can paint the walls in sections with a split complementary scheme, or a base color and the two colors next to its complementary. For example, paint the walls in geometric patterns using sage green, salmon and lavender paint.

Accent Wall

• An accent wall creates a focal point in a room that stands out against the other walls. Create an accent wall by painting the entire wall in sage green and painting the other walls in another color, either in a neutral color, monochromatic color or a complementary color. Likewise, you can create an accent wall by choosing to paint the accent wall using sage green's complementary color and painting the rest of the walls in sage green.

Decorative Techniques

• Paint your walls using a decorative technique instead of painting your walls with a flat coat of sage green. One of the techniques that you can use is sponging, wherein you use a sponge to blot sage green paint over a base coat in the same or similar color to give it a textured surface. Give your walls a soft, gently textured look by using the color-washing technique. This technique is achieved by brushing thin diluted paint in a slightly darker color, such as olive green, over a base coat of sage green paint.
