How to Paint With a Roller on a Bedboard

When you paint furniture, using a small paint roller can enable you to apply an even layer of paint in a short time. Because the paint roller works effectively on smooth surfaces, it is ideal for painting larger furniture items. Use a roller to apply paint neatly and evenly to a bedboard. The final step may involve touching up the item with a paintbrush to ensure an attractive application overall.

Instructions

    • 1

Spread a drop cloth beneath the bedboard.

    • 2

Create an evenly scuffed surface over the entire bedboard using 220-grit sandpaper. Wipe down the bedboard with a tack cloth.

    • 3

Pour acrylic primer into a paint tray. Load a mini paint roller with 3/8-inch nap with the primer and roll it over the flat surfaces of the bedboard evenly. Continue applying primer in this fashion until you cover every flat area.

    • 4

Load the 2-inch flat paintbrush with primer and apply it neatly to crevices and corners you could not reach with the roller. Rinse your paint tray and mini paint roller thoroughly. Allow the primer to dry completely.

    • 5

Pour acrylic paint into the paint tray. Load the mini paint roller with paint in the same fashion as you loaded the primer. Apply the paint using the same application technique. Switch to the flat paintbrush to apply paint to crevices and corners. Allow the paint to dry completely.

Apply a second coat of paint to the bedboard if you desire.
