How to Fix Paint Lines in a Ceiling

Ceiling paint is thicker than normal paint so it will stick better to the ceiling and cover more imperfections. However, it can leave paint lines if you don’t apply it evenly or if you let one area dry before moving on to the area next to it. If your ceiling has paint lines, the only way to fix them is to add another layer of paint. The paint should be the same color as the undercoat of paint.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all of the furniture from the room and lay a drop cloth over the whole floor to avoid paint stains.

    • 2

Climb the ladder and vacuum the ceiling to remove any dust or cobwebs.

    • 3

Place the roller extension onto the roller. Pour the paint into the roller pan so it’s about 2 to 3 inches deep. Dip the roller into the paint to coat it completely. Make sure the paint is not dripping.

    • 4

Climb the ladder or extend the roller extension to reach the ceiling.

    • 5

Paint the ceiling, starting on the side of the room that corresponds to your writing hand. Paint to the other side of the room in straight even lines until the whole ceiling is painted. Paint the ceiling in squares that are about 3 feet tall by 3 feet wide. Overlap to the next square before the previous square is dry to avoid paint lines.

    • 6

Dip the paintbrush into the paint. Cut along the edges of the wall and ceiling with the paintbrush for an even finish.

    • 7

      Allow the paint to dry.
