How to Create Leopard Print Walls

Animal prints have remained in style for decades and new painting styles have made it easier than ever to include a wild pattern on a wall. Leopard print walls will take some time and patience to accomplish, but the end result will definitely be worth the effort. Keep in mind that this is a very bold pattern. If you have a small room, do just one accent wall in this print to avoid closing in the space.

Instructions

Paint the walls tan. Tan is the basecoat for this design. Apply one to two coats of paint to your walls. Give each coat plenty of time to dry and the last coat will need at least 6 to 8 hours to dry before proceeding to ensure that no color bleeding will occur.

Tape a stencil to the wall using painter's tape.

    • 3

Paint the stenciled area with black paint. For the best results, use a latex paint in a different finish than the wall paint. For example, if the tan color is semi-gloss or gloss, use flat paint so that it will adhere properly. Use a small artist brush to control the amount of paint used. This will take time, so be patient. Once the stenciled area is complete, move the stencil to a new area and start over.

Touch up the interior of the spots. To avoid an overload of black paint, go over your spots with tan paint with your small artist brush. Remember -- leopard print is random, and each spot should be slightly different.
