How to Hide Paint Lines on the Ceiling

A painted ceiling gives your home’s décor a whole other dimension, but paint lines on the ceiling draw the eye in an unwelcome way. Paint lines are often left from painting unevenly and letting one area dry before moving on to the next area. In order to hide these lines you’ll have to add a new layer of paint. Use the same color as the original ceiling paint for the best results.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the furniture from the room and lay a drop cloth over the whole floor to avoid paint stains. Place drop cloths over the furniture if moving it is not possible. Tape newspaper along the side of the walls to avoid drips and spills.

    • 2

Pour the paint into the bucket. If you have more than one can of paint, pour them all into the bucket and mix together for a uniform color.

    • 3

Dip the paintbrush into the paint and dab off any extra on the side of the bucket. Run the brush along the side of the ceiling where it meets the wall. Turn the brush at an angle so the bristles make a point. Cut the paint along the ceiling in a 2- to 3-inch-wide line. Cut the paint around the perimeter of the whole ceiling.

    • 4

Attach the roller extension to the roller. Pour the paint into the roller pan. Dip the roller in the paint and roll it until it’s coated but not dripping.

    • 5

Roll the paint onto the ceiling in a W-shaped pattern and fill it in. Paint the ceiling in 3-foot squares. Roll the paint 3 to 4 inches from the cut lines. Paint over to the next 3-foot square before the previous square is dry to avoid paint lines. Paint into the cut paint as well.
