How to Paint a Room Tan and Teal

Teal is a very rich, blue-green color that is often paired with brown shades, such as tan, since this is a combination that has a sophisticated look and is visually interesting. These colors can be used in a variety of design themes, from contemporary to traditional.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the primary color for the room. A small room would be better served by using tan for the main color, as teal is a dark color that could overwhelm the small space if used extensively. If the room is large however, teal can be the primary color with tan as the accent color for the trim.

Select an accent wall. If you want more teal in a small space, use it on one accent wall, with the other three walls painted tan. This limited amount of teal will be effective without enclosing the space. In a large room, you could choose to make the accent wall tan and the other walls teal.

Paint the teal sections first. Tape off any trim work or areas that will be painted tan. Apply the paint with a roller or brush, as applicable, and clean up any drips or mistakes immediately. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly. Remove the tape.
