How to Cut a Caulking Tube for a Good Bead of Caulking

Caulk is a waterproof sealant that is often used in building repair work. Caulk is commonly dispensed from a caulking gun and getting a smooth bead from caulk can be a little tricky. You can get the perfect beaded caulk by properly cutting the caulking tube before you start on your project.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the caulking cap from the tube.

    • 2

Determine what size of caulking you will need during application. The lowest portion of the tube will yield a large opening for the caulk. If you are caulking a shower trim, a 1/4-inch to 3/8-inch bead is suitable for the project.

    • 3

Cut the tube at a 45-degree angle once you have determined the size of the caulk you will need.

    • 4

Continue on with the application process until you have finished working on your area. Wipe away any excess caulk with paper towels.
