How to Make Pearly Paint Swirls on Walls

When you want a room to have a shimmering, magical look, consider giving it a pearly, swirly finish using iridescent wall paint. This effect is perfect on the walls of a child's room who loves fantasy, or on the walls of a room that you want to have just a little bit of sparkle. This paint technique involves the use of two metallic or iridescent wall paint, available at home improvement or paint stores. Choose two shades of the same color of iridescent paint, like a light pink and a rose pink, or a sky blue and a robin's egg blue.

Instructions

    • 1

Put down a drop cloth to protect the floor.

    • 2

Paint the walls using the lighter iridescent paint using a paintbrush and allow it to dry completely. This may take several hours or even a full day.

    • 3

Apply a thin coat of the darker iridescent paint to a 5-foot segment of the painted wall using a paintbrush. Paint only a small area to ensure that you can work with the paint while it is wet.

    • 4

Wipe swirls into the wet top layer of paint using a squeegee or a clean rag, moving the object in a circular motion. While the paint is wet, the squeegee or rag can remove sections of it cleanly. Be creative and make irregular swirls in the wet paint. The motion of the squeegee or the clean rag removes the top layer of paint, revealing the bottom layer underneath.

    • 5

Repeat Steps 3 and 4 throughout the room.

    • 6

Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.
