Choose two or three walls of the room to paint sage.
Make a focal point of the remaining wall by painting it yellow or purple. Choose a light hue of the color, particularly if applying in a small space, so as not to overwhelm the environment with too much color.
Apply a decorative accent such as stripes or a stenciled pattern in the remaining color. Embellish with stripes only on the accent wall, but appropriately space out the stencil among all of the walls to create a balanced look. Use a faux technique, such as sponging or ragging, in lieu of stripes or a stenciled pattern to incorporate the accent colors.
