How to Repaint Chrome Shower Trim

Chrome shower trim is a bathroom accent that is meant to adorn your shower with a metallic sparkle and shine. Chrome is also commonly used for bathroom sink fixtures as well. Chrome trim is usually a type of metal plating that is composed of the element chromium. Corrosion on your chrome trim will dramatically affect its appearance in a negative way. Rather than buying new trim, fix up your chrome shower fixtures yourself with a new coat of paint.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the trim from the shower by unscrewing the screws that are holding the chrome fixtures in place.

    • 2

Place the trim items onto a flat surface that is covered with newspaper or a drop cloth.

    • 3

Place a few drops of water onto a 600-grit piece of sand paper and use the sand paper to sand the chrome trim until you have a smooth, dull-looking finish.

    • 4

Shake a can of spray trim paint to mix the paint. Do this for about two to three minutes.

    • 5

Hold the spray paint about 10 inches away from the trim and spray across the chrome piece using a steady, sweeping motion. Move the can slowly enough across the trim to coat it with color, but don't move it so slowly that the paint begins to run.

    • 6

Wait for approximately three hours as the paint dries.

    • 7

Add another coat of paint to the chrome trim pieces and wait another three hours for this coat to dry.

    • 8

Reattach the trim pieces to the shower.
