Spread the drop cloth over the floor under the wall. Apply painter’s tape onto every adjacent surface around the wall to prevent paint from spreading onto these surfaces.
Dip the trim brush into the base color of paint and apply the paint around the perimeter of the wall. Pour the paint into the tray and load the roller. Apply the base color of paint to the wall in a thin and even layer. Allow the paint to dry for the time recommended on the can. Apply a second coat of paint, if you desire, and allow it to dry completely.
Measure the point where you want to make a line with the tape measure. Make one small pencil mark at this point. Place the level at the pencil mark to ensure that you make a level line and draw the line with the pencil using the level as a straight edge. Continue measuring and marking the line with the tape measure, level and pencil until you complete it. Make as many lines as you require using this process.
Apply painter’s tape along the outside edges of the pencil lines to enable you to apply the accent paint color between the lines. Press the edge of the painter’s tape along the lines firmly into the textured wall with your fingers to create an effective seal.
Load the 1-inch flat paintbrush with the base color of paint and apply paint along the inside edge of the painter’s tape. Applying this paint color first seals the painter’s tape and prevents the accent color from seeping beneath the tape. Continue applying the base color of paint in a narrow line along every inside edge of the painter’s tape.
Pour the accent paint into the tray and load the roller. Apply the accent paint to the wall, covering the narrow line of base paint and filling the entire area you need to coat with the accent color. Allow the paint to dry completely. Apply a second coat of paint, if you desire.
Remove the painter’s tape before the paint dries completely.
