Sealing a Faux Glazed Wall

Faux glazing is a painting technique that makes walls appear shiny or textured, without the use of added materials, such as plaster. Unprotected faux glazed walls may become damaged by moisture or exposure to direct sunlight, causing the faux glazing to crack or peel. Protect the faux glazed walls from damage by applying a waterproof wall sealant. Save money by applying inexpensive waterproof sealant yourself, which enables you to protect your walls without draining your pocketbook in the process.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the bottom of a paint tray with waterproof wall sealant. Select the type of sealant you prefer, including glossy, matte, clear or tinted. If the glazed faux wall already has a glossy coating, select a glossy sealant. For a faux wall with a matte glaze, select a matte sealant.

    • 2

Coat a flat, 3-inch-wide paintbrush with the wall sealant, and apply the sealant along the corners and top and bottom edges of the faux finished wall.

    • 3

Tap the sealant into creases and cracks over the faux texture using the paintbrush.

    • 4

Coat a paint roller in the wall sealant, then apply the sealant in an even layer over the entire wall.

    • 5

Allow the sealant to dry on the faux glazed wall for 12 to 18 hours.

    • 6

Apply a second layer of wall sealant over the faux finish in the same manner as before, allowing the sealant to dry for an additional 12 to 18 hours.
