How to Cover Graffiti on Sheetrock

Sheetrock is a major brand name for gypsum wall board, better known as drywall. Prior to drywall, plaster was used primarily for wall surfaces. Today, Sheetrock and other drywall products are commonly used in businesses and homes. If your Sheetrock walls were vandalized with graffiti, don't fret -- you can cover it with primer and paint so it's no longer visible.

Instructions

    • 1

Wear a dust mask and lightly sand the Sheetrock with 120-grit sandpaper, using a sanding pole to reach high areas. Sanding helps smooth any rough areas, bumps or raised areas caused by the graffiti. It also helps the primer adhere better to the drywall surface.

    • 2

Prime over the graffiti and the entire wall with a high-quality interior primer. Have it tinted at the store so it's one to two shades lighter than the paint color. Primer helps cover the graffiti so painting is more effective and it helps the paint better adhere to the Sheetrock.

    • 3

Paint the Sheetrock with a high-quality interior paint. Use a paintbrush to paint the edges and corners, then paint the middle of the wall with a roller. Paint large W's, overlapping them for good paint coverage. After the recommended drying time, you may need a second coat to thoroughly cover the graffiti.
