Cut the black, white and green wires connected to the existing light fixture near where they exit the wall or ceiling.
Strip approximately 1 inch of insulation from each wire where it exits the wall or ceiling. Strip approximately 1 inch of insulation from the tips of the wires connected to the existing light fixture.
Insert the tips of the black wire from the wall or ceiling, the black wire connected to the light fixture and the length of black wire cut in a previous step into a wire nut. Twist the wire nut clockwise to splice the wires together.
Repeat this process with the white wire and the green wire.
Feed the lengths of black, white and green wires into the hole of the existing light fixture. Run the wires to the location of the new light fixture.
Consult the documentation of the new light fixture to determine which terminal is "hot," which is "neutral" and which is the "ground."
Curve the tips of the black, white and green wires at the location of the new light fixture into hooks.
Loop the hook of the black wire over the terminal identified as "hot" by the documentation. The open end of the hook must face to the left. Tighten the terminal screw to secure the wire in place. Repeat this process with the white and green wires.
