Rope Lighting Ideas

Trees and Bushes

• String rope lights in the trees and bushes in your front yard, back yard or both. Use white or yellow rope lights year round to add a sense of romance or sophistication to your yard. Or stand out from your neighbors by using blue or purple lights. For Christmas wrap red or green rope lighting around your trees. Use orange rope lighting to decorate for Halloween.

Decks and Patios

• Add some night-time ambiance to your deck or patio with rope lighting. Outline the perimeter of your patio with the lights. Not only does it look nice but helps your guests see the patio's edge in the dark. If you have a deck, use the light to outline the edges, wrap around balusters and railings, or amplify any architectural details. Go festive with colored rope lighting or more refined with white or yellow lights.

Pathways

• Illuminate outdoor pathways with rope lighting. Outline your walkway, driveway or garden paths so you and your visitors can see where you're walking. Since rope lights are waterproof, you won't have to worry about them when it rains or when you turn on the water sprinklers.

Stairs

• Use rope lighting to light up stairs at night so no one trips on them in the dark. Place them on outdoor or indoor steps. Be sure to install them on the side of the stairs or beneath them so no one trips on the lights. Indoors they also function as a nightlight in case you have to use the stairs to get to a bathroom or sneak down to the kitchen for a midnight snack.

Shelving

• Rope lighting can add light to dark kitchen cabinets, bookcases or closest shelves. Line the inside of the shelves with rope lights so you can find things easier. You can also add rope lighting under kitchen cabinets for extra counter lighting. Install rope lighting on top of kitchen cupboards and bookcases for decoration.

Children's Rooms

• Add a little bit of fun and whimsy to your child's room with rope lighting. Rope lighting stays cools when turned on so if you kid touches the rope, he won't burn himself. Hang the lights from the ceiling or lay them along the edges of the walls. Use them for lighting in a homemade fort. Wrap the headboard or bed frame with the lights. The lights can also act as a nightlight. Choose rope lights in your child's favorite color or use multiple colors.
