How to Make a Balloon Chandelier

Balloon chandeliers offer an original way to display balloons, as well as a fast and inexpensive way to spruce up your light fixtures. Balloons are translucent, meaning they diffuse light while adding color and vitality to a space. For this reason, balloon chandeliers can add a touch of fun and romance to an event at the same time. You don't even have to purchase one of these chandeliers; you can make one yourself in an afternoon.

Instructions

    • 1

Blow up about three dozen small balloons. Make them about the size of your two fists put together and pear-shaped. Choose a color scheme to give your chandelier a sense of order. Primary colors, all pastels or one solid color would work well. You could also use clear balloons.

    • 2

Thread a needle with clear, nylon thread and pass the needle and thread through the knot of each balloon. Pierce the knots only; if you get even a little of the inflated part of the balloon, your chandelier will start to deflate. When finished, you should have a long string of balloons.

    • 3

Stick some sticky wall hooks to your ceiling around the light fixture you want to embellish. Place the two hooks on either side of the fixture about 8 inches from the bulb. Place the next two hooks about 10 inches from the fixture and the last set of hooks about 12 inches from the fixture.

    • 4

Tie about 20 inches of nylon thread around the knot of your first balloon. Tie the thread into a loop and hook it over the first sticky hook next to your light fixture. Tie an 18-inch piece of nylon thread to the sixth or seventh balloon and loop that thread over the next sticky hook.

    • 5

Decrease the length of your nylon thread by 2 inches each time as you continue hanging your balloons from the sticky hooks. This will create a long balloon spiral that is long and narrow in the center and becomes wide and short around the edges.
