How to Make Jars Into Solar Lights

Solar jars, or sun jars, are solar lights made from basic glass jars. Easy to create, solar jars can be made from recycled materials that you have at home and the tops of small solar lights. These jars provide gentle light that is suitable for lighting walkways, placing on tables and nightstands or giving as gifts. Making jars into solar lights is simple, attractive and inexpensive.

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the top of the small solar light and remove the solar panel, wiring, light bulb and battery compartment.

    • 2

Spray the glass jar with glass frosting spray, if desired, and allow it to dry completely. Wait several hours to ensure that it is thoroughly dry. Remove or protect the lid of the jar for this step as the lid must remain clean in order for the solar panel to collect sunlight. Glass frosting spray provides a more diffused light for the final product.

    • 3

Use waterproof glue to attach the battery pack to the bottom of the solar panel if it is only attached by the wire. Glue the light bulb to the center of the battery pack if it is not already attached.

    • 4

Glue the solar panel to the center of the inside of the lid by placing a small amount of glue on each of the four corners. Press it firmly and allow the glue to dry for one to two hours. The solar panel must be facing upwards towards the sun, and the light bulb must be facing down into the jar.

Put a battery into the battery pack if the solar light did not come with one. Put the lid on the jar and place the jar in direct sunlight to charge the battery. Your homemade solar jar will light up when it gets dark outside.
