How to Hang Solar Rice Paper Lights

Decorating your home is one of the best ways to express who you are. Choosing decorations is a very personal process that can take you a long time to perfect. If you happen to choose an Asian motif, you will probably find yourself with a bunch of paper lights. These globes of paper are usually hung from a pole or ceiling and emit slightly colored light through their hand-painted surface. Hanging solar-powered rice paper lights must be done correctly or the lights won't receive any power from the sun.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a location for your solar rice paper lights. This location should receive a lot of sunlight. A tree outside is an excellent choice, but a sunny spot indoors will also work.

    • 2

Decide how far you would like a light to hang down. Rice paper lights look great when they appear to hang midair. Once you've decided on the length, proceed to the next step.

    • 3

Cut a length of wire about double the length you want your lantern to hang, using wire cutters. You do not have to be exact.

    • 4

Place the wire around a suitable hanging surface. If you chose a tree to hang your paper lights, a branch works perfectly. If you have chosen an indoor location, you will need to screw in a hook to the surface to give the wire something to hang off. When placing the wire, make sure the middle point of the wire rests on the hanging surface and the two free ends dangle down.

    • 5

Thread the two bare ends through the metal loop at the top of the paper light.

    • 6

Twist the ends of the wires together to form a strong bond. The paper light will now hang freely. During the day, it will charge its battery. At nighttime, it will light up and produce splendid visuals.
