All you'll need are a few hand tools and about a half hour to change out the existing fixture and replace it with a new bungalow light to update your space or improve the decor. Instructions

    • 1

Go to the main electrical panel in your garage or laundry room. Find the breaker dedicated to the space where you're hanging the new bungalow light. Turn the breaker off.

    • 2

Enter the room and flip the light switch on to ensure no power is going to the existing ceiling light.

    • 3

Place a ladder under the old light fixture. Climb it and unfasten the facade plate with your hands or with a pair of pliers.

    • 4

Unfasten the retaining screws on the mounting bracket and loosen the wires with a screwdriver or pair of pliers. Pull the old mounting bracket off. Climb down the ladder and put the old light fixture aside.

    • 5

Unpackage the new bungalow light along with its mounting bracket and climb up the ladder with it. Secure the mounting bracket to the ceiling where the old bracket was with a screw gun.

    • 6

Twist the black or positive wire dangling from the ceiling to the bungalow light's black or positive wire. Twist the white or negative wires together as well. Run the copper ground wire attached to the bungalow light up to the new mounting bracket and connect it with a screwdriver.

    • 7

Fasten the bungalow light to the mounting bracket with a screw gun and fasten the new facade plate into place on the mounting bracket. Climb down the ladder.

    • 8

Flip the breaker back on and turn on the newly installed bungalow light to test it.
