Track Lighting Installation

Track lights provide overhead lighting and add warmth to any room. Instead of just having the room lit by a lamp, overhead lighting fills in the shadows and brightens the atmosphere. Not only are they convenient, but track lights also are adjustable. They can be tilted to create whatever mood is desired. Their installation is relatively trouble-free, and the light they deliver can be adjusted by whatever wattage bulb you desire.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the existing light fixture from its location if you haven't already. Note the arrangement of the wires. The new track lighting most likely will connect the same way.

    • 2

Connect any necessary wires from the fixture to the junction box, or housing, that held the old fixture.

    • 3

Attach the track to the junction box by following the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 4

Mark the placement of the length of the track by holding it against the ceiling. Use a pencil or pen to mark the mounting holes.

    • 5

Drill holes into the ceiling at the spots marked.

    • 6

Secure the track to the ceiling by pushing screws or toggle bolts through the track mounting holes.

    • 7

Attach the electrical adapter to the track. Snap the cover over the mounting plate and track end.

    • 8

Insert the fixtures onto the track and secure them into place, usually by twisting them into the socket. Insert the appropriate wattage bulbs into the fixtures.
