How Can I Light Up Dark Stairways & Walkways Where No Electricity Exists?

Dark stairways and walkways can be especially dangerous when there is no lighting capabilities. However, it is the responsibility of the homeowner or property manager to make sure that there is enough light in these areas to eliminate the possibility of injury. There are options for lighting when there is no electricity. Home improvement stores, as well as specialty stores, carry battery-operated safety lights as options to help keep your property safe and hazard-free. A convenient product is a stairway and hallway LED lighting kit.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of the stairway or walkway. If the stairway has a skirting board, measure along the top edge of the skirting board.

    • 2

Remove the protective paper stickers from the motion-sensor eyes. Adhere the light units to the wall or the walkway so the "top" position is oriented correctly.

    • 3

Connect the required number of units to the first unit until both sides of the length of the stairway or walkway can be bathed in LED light. Attach another sensor base to the other end of the lighting units. Attach the LED cap end to the end of the sensor base unit.

    • 4

Install four AA batteries in each sensor base unit. The LED units will illuminate for 60 seconds to let you know that the installation was completed correctly.

    • 5

Set the "Time On" length using the control knob to "20," "40" or "60" seconds. If motion is sensed by the motion sensors after the initial sensor time has ended, the lights will remain on until the motion ceases.
