How to Mount a Desk Lamp

A desk lamp offers a convenient light source for reading material up close. Unlike a traditional lamp, a desk lamp focuses light onto a smaller area. Desk lamps can be mounted on desks and often have moveable arms allowing the light source to be adjusted. The most common type of desk lamp is one found on architectural drafting tables. Anyone can benefit from using a desk lamp, and its installation is not difficult.

Clear away the section of the desk where the lamp will be placed. Measure the height from the desktop to any obstruction to ensure that the desk lamp will fit. Locate an available electrical outlet.

Take out the desk lamp from its packaging and assemble it according to the instructions that came with the device. Place a small 1-inch pad on the spot where the lamp will be mounted. The lamp should be positioned near the edge of the desk so there is something to clamp the lamp to.

Place the lamp mount onto the 1-inch pad. Carefully tighten the clamp until the lamp is secure. Check the security of the mount by moving the lamp arms. If the lamp isn't sturdy, tighten the clamp mount again.
