How to Recover Chandelier Shades

Remove the lampshades from your chandeliers. Place your tissue paper on a flat surface, like the kitchen counter. Place your lampshade on its side on the tissue paper with the seam side down. Roll the shade to the right until it makes a complete rotation. Trace the upper edge as it rotates; it will make a "u" shape as it rotates.

Roll the lampshade back to its starting position and repeat rolling the shade to the right, this time tracing the lower edge of the shade; it will make another "u" shape, this one below the one you previously made. Use a ruler to connect the two edges of the "u" shaped lines.

Use your ruler to draw seam allowances 1 inch outside of each of the lines you drew. Each of the four lines should be extended out another inch. Cut out this pattern from the tissue paper and hold it up to your lampshade to make sure it fits. Make any adjustments you need to the pattern.

Pin your pattern to your fabric and cut it out. Fold one short edge of the fabric over 1/2 inch and press in place with your finger.

Spray your lampshade liberally with the spray adhesive. Starting with the raw short edge of your fabric, press your fabric to the seam of the shade. Roll the fabric onto your shade slowly and carefully to make sure no wrinkles or air bubbles occur; if they do, pull the fabric away from the shade and smooth the fabric back into place.

Roll the fabric onto the shade until the folded edge is smoothed into place. One-half-inch of raw fabric will hang from both the top and bottom of the shade. With your scissors, cut small clips into the fabric from the edge of the fabric up to the edge of the lampshade.

Place a line of glue on the underside of the lampshade on the top and bottom edges. Smooth the clipped edges onto the glued section of the lampshade and hold in place for about 30 seconds. Hold edges in place with butterfly clips. Let dry completely and remove clips. Glue trim in place if desired.
