Turn off the electricity to the light fixture at the circuit breaker box. Tape a caution sign over the box so that no one will touch the panel while you are working on the electricity. Position a ladder under the pendant fixture and use a screwdriver to remove the canopy. The wires coming from the fixture will be attached to the house wires with plastic caps.
Unscrew the plastic caps and separate the wires. Screw one wire cap back over each bare wire. Unscrew any other screws connecting the pendant to the ceiling electrical box. Tuck the capped wires back up inside the box. Place a decorative blank canopy over the hole and screw it to the electrical box.
Place the light fixture on a table. Open a light fixture kit with an in-cord switch. Separate the last inch of the wire using a utility knife. Cut the insulation 3/4 inch from the end of each wire and strip off the insulation using electrical wire strippers.
Match the wire colors. Position the two wires of the same color next to each other and twist the stripped ends over each other. Screw a wire cap over the two ends until the cap is tight. Repeat for the second wire. Wrap both wires with electrical tape so that the caps are covered. Plug your fixture into a wall outlet and test the light. Turn the in-cord switch to turn the light on and off.
