Alternatives to Mirabella GU10

Mirabella's GU 10 is a halogen light bulb that uses the bayonet-style plug-in carriage designated GU 10. The halogen bulb runs on only 11 watts giving it significant energy savings when compared to traditional GU 10 bulbs. Mirabella is a 100 percent Australian owned lighting company, and all of it's lighting products are sold there. The GU 10 designation is a standard and many different types of light bulbs fit that specification, from other halogen lights to compact florescent, and even LEDs.
  1. Other Halogen GU 10

    • Several companies offer Halogen light bulbs similar to Mirabella's GU 10. The small halogen-filled bulb is encased within a larger glass housing with reflective walls directing the light. The bulbs are designed in a similar way to a traditional incandescent, but are much brighter and use less energy due to chemical processes within the halogen filled bulb. Some examples of these bulbs include the PAR16 GU10 bulb manufactured by Sylvania, or MR16 Mains and the MR16 Mains Start manufactured by GE.

    Compact Fluorescent GU 10

    • Compact Fluorescent is an alternative light bulb style developed in the 1980s to make fluorescent lighting easier to install. Unlike the large fluorescent lighting long found in offices and stores, compact fluorescent light bulbs are able to fit into small lamps and don't create the noise or flicker of their larger counterparts. Lighting company Feit makes a compact fluorescent bulb with a GU 10 base, which is directional and reflective like the halogen GU 10 bulbs.

    LED GU 10

    • LED lighting, though often more expensive than other forms of alternative lighting, does produce the most light for the most energy. GE, who makes an LED light with a GU 10 plug, estimates that if every household changed one of their current 40 watt incandescent with a 9 watt LED bulb, it would prevent 5 billion pound of green house gas from entering the atmosphere every year. The GU 10 LED bulb they use is directional and boasts a lifetime of 25,000 hours.

    Other Bayonet Mount Designations

    • The GU 10 is just one of the many new carriage designs found on alternative light bulbs. The same styles of light bulbs can be found with the same screw-in carriages as traditional incandescent as well as with a number of new and more efficient designs. Manufacturers offer similar pronged designs like the GU 24, and also dual contact designs like the B22d.
