How to Hide Lamp Cords

Lamp cords can distract from the appearance of a sleek and modern lamp design or from a tidy looking room. Cords snake off desks and across floors and look cluttered. Hiding the lamp cords will allow you to focus on the lamp itself, or to just take in the design of a room without having to see the messy cords. Selecting cords that match whatever you are setting them on will also make them more difficult to spot.

Instructions

  1. Desk Lamps

    • 1

Turn the lamp so the cord faces behind it. The base of the lamp will hide it from your line of sight.

    • 2

Remove the covering on the adhesive back of the design clips. Press the clips into the back of the desk, then down the leg closest to the outlet. Put one clip every four inches.

    • 3

Feed the lamp cord into the clips down the back of the desk, them down the desk leg. Plug the lamp into the nearest outlet or thread the cord behind a nearby piece of furniture and plug it in behind the piece.

    Floor Lamp

    • 4

Turn the lamp so the cord sits behind it, just as you would for a desk lamp.

    • 5

Hang floor-length curtains, if the cord passes under a window. Tuck the cord as close to the baseboard as possible so the curtains hide it.

    • 6

Cover the cord with an area rug, if it passes over the carpet but not up against a baseboard. Carpet runners will cover long areas.
