How to Replace the Goo in a Lava Lite

Lave Lite is the first manufacturer of lava lamps. If you have a Lava Lite, it can develop of number of problems that cloud the goo inside the lamp or cause the color to fade. Shaking or dropping the lamp clouds the water and goo mixture while exposure to ultraviolet rays fades the color of the goo. To fix these problems, you'll have to replace the goo, but this will void your warranty for the Lava Lite lamp.

  • Dish soap
  • Goo kit

      Purchase a Goo Kit from the Goo Kit website. This will allow you to replace the goo in your Lava Lite.

      Unscrew the top of the Lava Lite lava lamp and empty the contents into the garbage. Wash out the inside of the lamp with 2 drop to 3 drops of dish soap and rinse it with distilled water.

      Bend the steel screen into an oblong shape at least 1 inch tall and set it in the bottom center of the lava lamp.

      Place the goo into a jar at a ratio of 3 cups of goo to every 4 quarts of water needed for the lamp. Bring a shallow pot of water to a boil and remove it from the heat. Place the jar of goo into the water when the boiling stops. Add 1 gm of color per quart of wax when the wax turns opaque. Stir the color in until the wax is evenly colored.

      Place the funnel that came with the Goo Kit into the top of the lamp and pour the goo into the funnel. Allow it to harden at the bottom.

      Fill the vase with distilled water. Add 10 ml of Surfactant to the water and stir gently until combined. Place the lid back on the Lava Lite.
