Instructions

    • 1

Remove the paper from 200 crayons. Shave various crayons using the blade of a knife or scissors. Alternatively, if you have a shaving disk for your food processor, feed the crayons through that.

    • 2

Spread a clean towel out on your work surface. Place an 18-inch piece of parchment paper on top of the towel. Place an 18-inch piece of wax paper on top of the parchment paper.

    • 3

Sprinkle the wax paper with a thin layer of shaved crayons. Place a second piece of 18-inch wax paper on top of the crayon. Place a second 18-inch piece of parchment paper on top of the wax paper.

    • 4

Iron the top of the parchment paper with a warm iron on the lowest setting. Keep the iron moving, melting the crayons in between the wax paper. Leave the wax paper and crayon to cool for 10 to 20 minutes. Once the wax sets, peel the parchment paper off the wax paper.

    • 5

Repeat Steps 2 through 4 with the rest of wax paper.

    • 6

Adjust a circle cutter to 2-1/2 inches. Use the circle cutter to cut out circles from the wax paper sheets. Each sheet yields 28 circles for a total of 224 circles once you cut all sheets.

    • 7

Apply a line of fabric paint in any color around the edge of each circle. Let the paint dry overnight.

    • 8

Cut 36 pieces of 3/4-by-7-inch ribbon in any color. Wrap one end of one of the ribbons around the top edge of a 12-inch wire planter basket. Hot glue ribbon in place. Attach the remaining ribbons around the top of the basket, spacing them 1/3 inch apart.

    • 9

Cut 24 pieces of 3/4-by-7-inch ribbon in any color. Wrap the ribbons around the edge of the middle band of the planter, spacing them 1/3 inch apart. Hot glue them in place.

    • 10

Cut 12 pieces of 3/4-by-7-inch ribbon in any color. Wrap the ribbons around the edge of the bottom band around the planter, spacing them 1/3 inch. Hot glue them in place.

    • 11

Attach three stained glass circles to each ribbon using a dot of hot glue at the top of the circle. Center the ribbon in the center of the circle. Start with the circle on the top edge of the ribbon. Place the second circle 1/4 inch underneath the first. Place the third 1/4 inch underneath the third. Repeat the process with all the strings and all the circles.
