How to Build an LED Light With a PVC Pipe

PVC(polyvinyl chloride) is a type of widely used plastic. PVC pipes are lightweight, inexpensive and commonly used for a variety of purposes. Turning a PVC pipe into a light by using LEDs (light emitting diodes) can be an interesting home-decor project. The job should take less than an hour. The result is a unique strip-lighting system that can be as expanded.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a length of PVC pipe. The length of the pipe will be the length of the strip light.

    • 2

Purchase a LED light strip as long as the PVC pipe.

    • 3

Pull the LED light strip over the length of the PVC pipe.

    • 4

Mark where every LED bulb is on the outside of the pipe.

    • 5

Drill a hole in each marking made in Step 4. The holes should be the same diameter as the LED bulbs.

    • 6

Run the LED strip through the PVC pipe.

    • 7

Push each LED bulb through each of the drilled holes. This can be a little tricky, as the bulbs are not easy to reach. Use a yard stick or other long object to help guide the light. Use tweezers to pull bulbs from the outside of the pipe.

    • 8

Use Super Glue(or similar product) to bond the bulbs to the PVC pipe. Wait for the glue to dry.

    • 9

Attach an LED control module to the LED lights. The light strip will clip to the control module. There are a variety of modules to choose from. Determine if you want a battery or electrical (outlet) powered control module. Test once the power is connected.
