Instructions

    • 1

Install a skylight if the hallway is in a one-story structure or on the top level. Or, install a window on either wall, which allows in natural light and also provides additional scenery. To make these changes, you must be the owner of the property.

    • 2

Install recessed lighting that doesn't intrude into any hall space or track lighting on the hallway ceiling as an alternative. Place a series of sconces along one or both walls to illuminate the path in the hallway.

    • 3

Place a series of light-colored area rugs along the length of the hallway. Choose from an endless array of rug designs to add a dash of style, along with a boost of brightness.

    • 4

Install mirrors on the hallway walls, which reflects any light inside the hallway and provides the illusion of brightness. Place a mirror at the end of the hall, on the wall or on the door to provide a visual destination while walking through it.

    • 5

Paint the hallway walls a light, neutral color. Or, paint the walls with a glossy paint, which reflects any light, similar to mirrors.

    • 6

Place an upholstered chair that has an attractive, fancy fabric in the hallway for seating.

    • 7

Place an eye-catching accessory, such as a vintage clock, against a wall in the hallway.
