Instructions

    • 1
Transform a toddler's tutu into a lamp shade.

Purchase a toddler size tutu in the color of your choice. Hot glue the waistband of the tutu around the outer edge of a wire ring lamp shade. Allow it to dry for half an hour. Add lengths of ribbon in a complementary color, evenly spaced around the tutu.

Cut the plug off of the bare bulb socket cord with scissors. Thread the raw end of the cord through the small ring opening from the underside of the lamp shade frame. Thread your wing nut over the cord so that it rests on top of the center opening and set it to the side.

    • 3

Slide open the cap of your end-plug. Bend the cut end of the socket cord wire into the end-plug opening. Position the socket cord wire so that the flat side is face down toward the opening and slide the cap back into place.

    • 4

Pull the cord through the lampshade frame and wing nut until the bulb socket meets the small opening. Pull the top end of the socket through the opening. Twist your wing nut tight to secure the socket to the frame.

    • 5

Thread the lamp cord through the links of a chain that is long enough to stretch from the wall outlet to the ceiling, while allowing the lamp to dangle at least 1 foot from the eye hook from which it hangs.

    • 6

Cut a 2-inch wide piece of fabric the same length as the chain and cord. Fold the fabric in half, with right sides facing. Make a 1/4-inch seam along the material. Turn it inside out with a crochet needle to hide the stitching.

Run the tubing over the chain and cord. Secure the fabric to the base of the lamp shade with a few hand sewn stitches to knot it around a link closest to the wing nut. Use a small piece of double sided hemming tape to secure it just above the plug. Screw in your low watt bulb and hang the lamp.
