DIY: Chandelier of Glass Bubble Beads

An old lampshade frame, which is an inexpensive purchase at a thrift store, is the perfect frame for a glass bubble bead chandelier that can cover an existing ceiling light fixture. Purchase bubble beads at a bead supply store. This chandelier would be spectacular over a dining room table and charming in a powder room, or place it in a bedroom for a sparkly embellishment.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all of the lampshade fabric from the entire lampshade frame using the scissors.

    • 2

Cut a piece of transparent beading wire to measure 18 inches long with the wire cutter. String a crimp bead on the wire and attach the crimp bead to one end of the wire by pressing the bead with the crimping tool firmly.

    • 3

String 10 glass bubble beads on the wire. String a second crimp bead on the wire.

    • 4

Loop the wire over the small wire circle on the top of the lampshade frame, which will be the bottom of the chandelier. Pass the wire through the second crimp bead a second time. Press the bead with the crimping tool to secure the wire to the frame. Trim any excess wire with the wire cutters.

Repeat these three steps to attach 20 strings of glass bubble beads to the frame’s small wire circle. Attach another 30 strings of glass bubble beads to the frame’s large wire circle. Spread out the strings around the circles evenly.

Screw three cup hooks into the ceiling surrounding an existing small lighting fixture, spaced to accommodate the large circle of the chandelier frame. Attach the completed glass bubble bead chandelier to the ceiling by hooking the frame over the cup hooks.
