How to Determine the Height for a Foyer Chandelier

Overhead lighting has been popular since the days of clay pots filed with animal fat and olive oil. It gives the best way to light large areas, and keeps the light out of everyone’s way. This is important in a foyer, or entrance to a home, where people gather together as visitors come and go. Making sure the chandelier height is proper requires just a few minutes of measuring and calculation.

Instructions

    • 1

      Measure the ceiling height.

    • 2

Divide by one-third to determine the proper height for the chandelier. If the ceiling height is 21 feet, the base of the chandelier should hang 7 feet down from the ceiling.

    • 3

Adjust the height of the chandelier upward if the measurement puts the chandelier lights lower than 7 feet. Otherwise a taller person may have difficulty passing under the light fixture.
