How to Make a Chandelier to Cover a Bare Bulb

A handmade ribbon chandelier will cover a bare bulb in a ceiling, adding a dash of style to any room in the house. The chandelier requires no wiring as it is attached to the ceiling around the bulb, and is made from an old recycled lampshade. By turning the lampshade form upside down, the wire form of the shade is the perfect base for the hanging strands of ribbon. Choose ribbons of all one kind, or an assortment for a colorful, eclectic chandelier.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut off all old fabric from the lampshade with the scissors, leaving just the wire lampshade form with its two connected circles.

    • 2

Cut the ribbon into 12-inch lengths. Tie the end of one length of ribbon to the large circle wire form in a secure double knot, with the long end hanging toward the smaller circle. The lampshade will hang upside down from the ceiling, so make sure the ribbon hangs in the right direction.

    • 3

Tie 12-inch pieces of ribbon in knots to cover the entire large and small circles of the lampshade.

    • 4

Screw the three cup hooks in the ceiling, evenly spaced around the bare bulb, corresponding to the size of the large lampshade circle. Hook the wire of the large circle over the cup hooks.
