Spray paint a 12-inch wide hanging planter basket. Chose white to match the capiz shells or choose another color to contrast. Let the spray paint dry overnight.
Cut 72 pieces of 3/4-inch wide ribbon into 7-inch lengths to attach the capiz shells to. Choose white to blend in with the shells or another color for contrast.
Wrap one piece of ribbon around the bottom band of the hanging basket. Apply hot glue to hold the ribbon in place. Let the ribbon hang down. Repeat the process with 11 additional ribbons. Place the ribbons around the edge of the planter, spacing them evenly apart.
Wrap 24 of the ribbons around the middle band of the planter, spacing evenly. Wrap them around and glue them as you did the first ribbons. Let the ribbons hang down.
Wrap the remaining 36 ribbons around the edge of the top band. Space them evenly and hot glue them in place. Let the ribbons hang down.
Attach the shells to the ribbons. Apply hot glue to the top edge of one the capiz shells. Position it along the top edge of one of the ribbons, with the ribbon centered in the shell. Press the glued edge of the shell against the ribbon to attach it.
Place a second shell on the same ribbon using more hot glue. Position the top edge of the second shell 1/4 inch below the first shell. Repeat the process with a third shell 1/4 inch below the second.
Attach the remaining capiz shells to the remaining ribbons. Place three shells per ribbon, each 1/4 inch apart.
