Place a piece of poster board on a cutting surface, such as a cutting board or scrapbook cutting mat. The size of the paper depends on how large you want the finished lamp to be.
Cut shapes out of the poster board using a craft knife. For circles, use a circle cutter. Leave a 1-inch uncut border on all four sides of the poster board. Use a random placement for the shapes you cut out or a set pattern. Cut out several varying shapes in one or different sizes, depending on what you like. The more shapes you cut out, the more light will shine through your homemade pendant lamp.
Place the cut poster board on newspaper. Spray paint the surface of the poster board. Let the spray paint dry overnight.
Bend the rectangular poster board into a cylinder shape. Overlap the edges of the poster board 1/2 inch. Apply high-temperature hot glue to the edge of the poster board and press it together to secure the shape. Alternatively, use staples to secure it.
Cut the bottom off of two wire hangers using tin snips to create two straight wires. Make the length of the wires the diameter of the cylinder minus 1/2 inch.
Punch two holes in the top of the cylinder, 1 inch apart from one another. Position the holes 3/4 inch below the top edge. Punch two more holes on the opposite side of the cylinder. Insert one of the wires through a hole on one side of the cylinder. Stretch it across the center of the cylinder and out the hole on the opposite side. Repeat the process with the other wire and remaining two holes. Apply hot glue to the ends of the wire to attach them to the cylinder.
Feed the electrical wire for the hanging pendant fixture through the bottom of the cylinder. Bring the wire up through the cylinder. Pass it in between the two pieces of hanger wire and out the top of the cylinder.
Attach the pendant light fixture to the ceiling according to manufacturer's instructions.
